Pulsatilla occidentalis
Lovely and soft, it's an early bloomer around Mount Rainier. This is my favorite photo, taken in 2019.
The plant flowers in early Spring depending on snowfall and temperature; added to that the blooms are fleeting. I drove three times to Mount Rainier this past summer (2023) specifically to photograph this flower, but I went twice to early and once too late. The third trip I found one plant that still had two flowers, though somewhat past their prime.
This is the seed head that follows the flower. I love them so much, they have their own post.
