White Prickly Poppy

Argemone albiflora

A Texas native. Lovely white flowers along the highway.


Not a particularly pretty plant, but the flowers are beautiful.

The petals are paper thin and just wave in the breeze all day. To get these photographs, I had to get out there particularly early before the wind started up.




These poppies are flourishing here at a corner of this over pass near Hempstead, Texas.

You can see here where the 'prickly' part came from.


A tradition medicinal plant of Native Americas.
